[DL-M] Asking for help

Waylene (after speaking to Brisse, but before speaking to Tr'etram)
****

Waylene paused looking at the paper. She pushed it away, and sat back. She
didn't really want to do this. She had vowed she would never speak to her
father again .. and now she was not only going to speak to him. But also
ask for his help! She had to remind herself that it was help not for
herself, but for the new Warren.

She kept going back over the last day she had spent with her father. They
had arrived at Marrid the night before. Her father was continually talking
to everyone how his daughter was going to be a dragonrider! He had been so
excited for her, and she was thrilled to have been asked to stand as well.
But the wonder of that day soon turned terribly wrong. She could still
picture her fathers face after she was unsuccessful at joining with a
dragon at that hatching. He'd been so disappointed, and told her that she
was not coming home with him as a failure.

He'd stormed out of the warren, leaving his only child behind. She'd
thought to keep it that way forever. Of course when at the next hatching
she joined with the first queen egg to be hatched at Marrid in almost 20
years, he had attempted to soothe the way. But she had refused. Time and
time again she had refused.

Once again she pulled the paper to her and quickly signed it, then sealed
it with her personal seal. She quickly sent it to Lendenval before she
could change her mind once again.

Godred
****

Lord Godred sat at his desk surrounded by his advisors as they discussed
the latest business in Lendenval. He was bored by today's session, but kept
his mind focused regardless on the chatter which seemed to continually come
out of Governor Radliff's mouth.

The knock on the door was just the distraction he needed and he quickly
bellowed, "Come in."

A small, thin man walked in bowing low to the large Lord, "Please forgive
the intrusion Lord Godred, but I have a message for you which I was sure
you would find of the utmost importance."

"I should hope so, Neland. You know how I hate to be interrupted when I'm
in the middle of meetings like this." Godred put on a good show for the
perturbed Governor Radliff.

Standing to his full 6'5" height, he took the slip of paper from the man's
hand. His eyes widened when he saw not only the seal from Marrid Warren,
but a second seal from the Warrenlady herself. He quickly opened the seal
and was even more surprised to see an official summons from Waylene. She'd
made it very clear that she didn't want to deal with him.

Regaining his composure after the surprise, he turned to Governor Radliff
and the other, "I'm so sorry to end this enlightening conversation, but
I've an official summons from the Lady Waylene at Marrid Warren."

"Your daughter?" said Governor Radliff, "I wasn't aware you were on
speaking terms with her."

"Seems you were wrong, doesn't it, Radliff," Godred said darkly.

"Very well, we will discuss this matter further, Lord Godred."

"Of course, Governor. I wouldn't miss it for anything." As they men left
the council chambers, Godred muttered, "Egotistical bastard!"

Neland smiled, "I knew you wouldn't mind the interruption, sir."

"Your were correct, my friend. Particularly when it's for Waylene," said
the aging noble.

"Perhaps your daughter has forgiven you." Neland said quietly.

Godred sighed heavily, "Would that I could believe that, Neland. But that
woman has a memory far longer then anyone I know." He was still ashamed of
his behavior back then. He had been arrogant and foolish. He'd tried many
times to make it up to her, but she would have none of it. Now she wanted
to see him. It was almost to much to believe.

He turned to his Aide, "Neland get my horse and wagon ready at once."

"Your going to leave now, sir?" the small man said in surprise. "It's a
long trip. You won't be there before dark."

Godred laughed heartily, "Why Neland, I think you sound concerned for my
well being." He chuckled a bit more then his face turned more serious. "But
my daughter wants to see me. After almost 12 years, she wants to speak with
me. I'm not letting this chance go by."

"I understand, Lord Godred. I will have the horse and wagon drawn up
immediately. Along with several of your personal guards to ride with you."

Godred nodded, "That will be acceptable, Neland, thank you." He turned
leaving his aide to see about his duties. Neland watched the large man
leaving, and shrugged. Godred was definitely a different man then he had
been 12 years ago. He figured Waylene was in for a surprise.
